Boise State routes Southern Miss
BOISE, Idaho - Joe Southwick threw for 268 yards and three touchdowns and Boise State got back to its winning ways with a 60-7 rout over Southern Mississippi Saturday night.
The Broncos (3-2, 1-1 Mountain West Conference) also got big plays from special teams, which blocked two field goals and forced a fumble on a punt return, and a defense that rebounded after getting torched a week ago in a 41-40 loss at Fresno State.
The offense got off to a slow start, going three-and-out on Boise State's first two possessions. But the Broncos found a rhythm and were impossible to stop the rest of the way, scoring on nine of their next 10 possessions.
Southwick was sharp again, completing 19 of 23 before heading to the bench in the third quarter. He threw touchdown passes of 14, 18 and 42 yards, and his 52-yard pass to Geraldo Boldewijn set up Jay Ajayi's 4-yard TD run just before the half.
The Golden Eagles (0-4) have now lost 16 straight dating back to last season, the nation's longest losing streak
