Coach Will Hall and staff has done it again. They have received another commitment from a very talented Mississippian for the 2022 class. DJ is a 6'3" 250 lbs DT out of Lafayette HS in Oxford. While only listed as a 2*, expect that to rise once he is out on the camp circuit. DJ is no stranger to the football world. His father Derrick Burgess was a 3rd round pick out of e Miss amd played for the Raiders, Eagles, and the Patriots. Big Gold Nation recently had the opportunity to sit down and chat with DJ about his commitment to Southern Miss. Here is the transcript below.

1. What was it about Southern Miss that made it your choice?

"I like the energy that all the coaches have. They made it feel like home when i was down there"

2. What Coaches have been most influential at USM during your recruitment"

"I would say coach Lacy and Coach Armstromg."

3. What are your best abilities as a player? What separates you from others?

"I feel like my biggest advantage is my mentality on the field. Physically i can use speed or power to beat my opponent"

4. Who is the biggest influence in your life and why?

"Jesus, because he showed us how to live the right way and he proved everybody wrong just like i plan to do."

5. What is a message you would like to send to all the Southern Miss fans out there?

"i’m reedy to work hard and help us get back TO THE TOP!"
