Defense stands out in practice

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss football team started its third week of spring practice here Tuesday afternoon at the Joe P. Park Practice Facility.
The Golden Eagles, which went through their seventh of 15 scheduled practices, were the beneficiaries of another perfect spring afternoon as they worked in full pads for over two hours.

The team continued to work on individual drills both on the offensive and defensive side of the ball and also finished the practice with several team periods with offense versus defense as the team continues to work towards its first full scrimmage of the spring set for this Friday.
Heading into the team's first scrimmage, the defense may be a little bit ahead of the offense as they return nine starters from a year ago, which includes seniors Deron Wilson (New Orleans, La.) and Alan Howze (Ocean Springs, Miss.)
The Golden Eagle offense returns four starters from a year ago and Friday's scrimmage gives several players a chance to shine in front of their coaches.
Southern Miss returns to the practice fields on Thursday with another afternoon practice.
The Golden Eagles will play their annual Black and Gold Spring Game, Saturday, April 20, at 1 p.m. The game has been moved to Petal High School due to debris that fell on the Carlisle-Faulkner Field following a Feb. 10 tornado. Tickets are $5 for individuals 12 and older and free for those under 12.
