Dual sport athlete commits to Southern Miss

Southern Miss had one spot left for a receiver and talented pass catcher Josh Magee from Hoover (Ala.) High has filled that slot.
When it came down to making a decision a lot rest on family.
"Everything was just so family oriented," Magee said of Southern Miss. "Plus, all my family is from Hattiesburg."
The two-sport star is the son of former Major League outfielder Wendell Magee who grew up in Hattiesburg and attended Hattiesburg High.
During the visit he was hosted by Southern Miss running back V.J. Floyd.
"We were just hanging out with a lot of the guys and I just felt like that I needed to go ahead and tell them I was committing," Floyd said.
During the visit Magee met with not only Southern Miss head football coach Larry Fedora, but also with Southern Miss baseball coaches.
"I'm going to be playing both sports," Magee said.
Magee is one of the top middle-infield prospects in Alabama and will likely be drafted in this springs major league amateur baseball draft.

He was named Class 6A 1st team All-State by the Alabama Sports Writers in football as a senior. He was also selected to play in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic.
Southern Miss offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic was responsible for recruiting Magee for the football Eagles while Chad Calliet has handled his baseball recruitment.
