Eagles open 2010 Fall Camp

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss opened its 2010 summer practice here Tuesday with a late-afternoon workout here at the Joe P. Park Practice Facility.
The Golden Eagles, in helmets and shorts, worked for two hours, 15 minutes in what started out as a hot afternoon but cooled later in the practice as storm clouds moved into the area.

Overall, third-year coach Larry Fedora was pleased with the team's first team workout since spring drills.
"It was really good to get back out on the field," Fedora said. "There was a lot of energy out there today and you could tell that these guys were ready to get back out there as well."
Fedora was especially pleased with the carryover of what the squad put installed over last spring and it helped in the progress of the practice.
"The recall from last spring and the summer was outstanding," Fedora added. "The guys did not miss a beat so we were able to get a lot accomplished today."
The start of practice also gave some guys a chance to return to action after missing varying amounts of playing time last season. Quarterback Austin Davis missed the final eight games last season with a foot injury, while defensive lineman Roshaad Byrd was hurt during practice during the Memphis game week, while receiver DeAndre Brown is another year removed from his leg injury he sustained during his freshman season.
All three returned to practice on Tuesday and Fedora said all did well.
"It was good to have everyone back and healthy," Fedora said. "Guys like Austin, DeAndre and Roshaad were all able to get back out there and compete today."
The Golden Eagles return to action Wednesday with another late-afternoon workout in helmets and shorts.
