Eagles return to practice field after scrimmage

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss went back to the practice field late Sunday afternoon in shoulder pads and helmets to correct things from its Saturday scrimmage as well as continue preparations for the 2009 season opener against Alcorn State.
The scrimmage gave second-year coach Larry Fedora a chance to evaluate where his team is at 12 days into fall camp.

"Looking back at the tape (of the scrimmage), we saw some good things and, just like we thought, there were some bad things which gave us a lot to work on," Fedora said about his team's two-hour, 15 minute practice here at the Joe P. Park Practice Facility Sunday. "We understand where we are at and we still are not where we want to be and have a long way to go, but its good we have more practices before we get to the 5th (against Alcorn State)."
Fedora also said that a pair of his running backs got banged up a little bit in the scrimmage, including senior Damion Fletcher and freshman [/db]Tracey Lampley[/db].
"Damion tweaked his hamstring yesterday in the scrimmage," Fedora said. "He was smart about it and went down immediately when he felt it, but he will be fine is what they tell me. So we are just letting him rest it and get him ready to go."
Lampley also got hit on a play about three-quarters of the way through the scrimmage on Saturday.
"Lampley got a slight rib contusion, so we have him limited right now as a precautionary thing," Fedora added. "We took an x-ray and everything was fine, as it was nothing serious on either one of those guys."
