Eagles return to practice field on Monday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss football returned to the practice fields here Monday to continue preparations for the 2009 season.
The Golden Eagles, which took Sunday off, returned to a beautiful early afternoon workout in shoulder pads and shorts, anxious to get back to work over the 2 hour, 30 minute workout.

"The guys came back from the weekend really strong because they were able to recoup after having Sunday off," Southern Miss coach Larry Fedora said. "We ended up scrimmaging about two full games on Saturday rep-wise, so they were worn down pretty good by the end of that scrimmage."
Fedora also said sophomore place kicker Daniel Hrapmann returned to practice after suffering an injury earlier in camp. Hrapmann is one of the contenders for the kicking duties for the 2009 season.
"Today was the first day that Hrapmann actually kicked a real ball," Fedora added. "He had been kicking a nerf ball, so it will be interesting to see how he feels tomorrow."
Fedora also announced an injury from Saturday's scrimmage to the media after Monday's practice.
"Korey Williams suffered an ankle sprain on Saturday and I will find out more today from the trainers on how he moved around and what he was able to do," Fedora said. The Golden Eagles open the campaign, Sept. 5, at home against Alcorn State. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
