"The defense dominated the entire scrimmage and that is what I probably expected as they are a little bit ahead of the offense at this point," said first-year coach Larry Fedora. "The offense is still putting in their system and trying to get the rust off."
All four quarterbacks saw action during the scrimmage as Austin Davis threw for 65 yards on 11-of-17 attempts, while Martevious Young added 7-of-13 passes for 92 yards. Todd Wilson completed all five throws for 22 yards and Randy Hardin was 2-for-3 for six yards and an interception.
Rising sophomore V.J. Floyd tallied 13 carries for 43 yards to lead the rushers, while Bubba Kirksey tallied five rushes for 39 yards. Damion Fletcher had three touches for five yards, while also catching a pair of passes for 13 yards.
Torris Magee led 11 different Golden Eagles who caught passes in the scrimmage. Magee tallied six catches for 49 yards. Floyd added a pair of receptions for 29 yards and Johdrick Morris notched two catches for 26 yards.
Defensively, Kevin North tallied the lone interception of the day while Logan Hickman added a pair of sacks. Junior college transfer Rolando Barragan, Eric Phillips and Roshaad Byrd delivered big hits on plays.
The Golden Eagles return to the practice field Thursday.
