Last second FG lifts Black over Gold 18-15

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Daniel Hrapmann connected on a 35-yard field goal as time expired to give the Black Team an 18-15 victory over the Gold Team in the annual Southern Miss Spring Football Game.
The first half was a slow-moving affair, as head coach Larry Fedora's high-powered first-string offense was held to just eight points. The Black squad got on the board first in the first quarter. They were stopped at the goal line on fourth-and-inches on their initial drive. But on the first play of the Gold's first series, they were called for holding in the end zone, giving the Black a 2-0 lead.

Daniel Hrapmann kicked two field goals in the second quarter, the second of which banked in off the left upright at the end of the half to send the Black squad into the break with an 8-0 lead.
Midway through the third quarter, V.J. Floyd capped off a 93-yard day, scampering for a 20-yard touchdown to put the Black team up 15-0.
But the Gold squad, who couldn't get anything going through the first three quarters, got started midway through the fourth.
Martevious Young, who finished with 54 yards on six rushes, put the Gold on the board with a two-yard run.
On their following possession, Bret Jefcoat found tight end David Rue for a seven-yard score, and then hit William Spight for the two-point conversion and tying the game at 15 with less than a minute to play.
However, the Black squad went into two-minute mode. Austin Davis connected with Quentin Pierce for a 31-yard strike to put them into Gold territory. After gaining only a couple yards, Hrapmann came on to attempt the 40-yard game-winner.
In a play reminiscent of 2008 New Orleans Bowl, Michael McGee came flying around the left end to block the kick. However, he was called for offsides, allowing Hrapmann to kick the game-winner.
Davis led all quarterbacks with 246 yards on 28-of-38 passing. Floyd rushed 22 times for 93 yards and four passes for 39 yards. Pierce caught six passes for 68 yards.
Martevious Young led the Gold squad with 54 yards and a touchdown on six carries. Desmond Young added 65 yards on 11 rushes. Bret Jefcoat was 10-of-12 passing for 48 yards and a touchdown.
Southern Miss opens its 2009 season Sept. 5 against Alcorn State.
