Post Game Notes

Head Coach Larry Fedora Postgame Quotes
Opening Statement:

"We had a tremendous crowd tonight. We're disappointed as a staff and football team about where we are right now. I still think we are getting better. Boise State is a good football team; they were the better football team tonight. They made more plays than we did, and they made fewer mistakes than we did. It is as simple as that."
About Losing Three Straight Home Games:
"We're going to find out about each and every man in the room, including myself. How we deal with this adversity is going to determine what kind of team we are. We're going to find out over the next few weeks. I'm talking about in the classroom, the study hall, the dining hall, the apartment complex--it's all part of it."
On the Play of the Defense:
"They have a good offense. The things they do; they give everyone problems. They score points on anyone. For the most part, our defense was hanging in there. There was a series or two where we gave up some big chunks of yardage, but I thought overall they fought hard."
On the Play of Austin Davis:
"I thought Boise did a good job of getting pressure on us. They got the safeties involved in stopping the run, and we couldn't make any plays over the top to get them out of the coverage."
Southern Miss Player Quotes
Damion Fletcher
On first 3rd straight home loss since 1977:
"It is very disappointing, to work hard and then come out with an L, that's for anybody, it's very disappointing. You work hard all week to come out here and get a W."
On Boise State Defense:
"I think they did a lot of different things, I think they prepared well for us, they were ready for our running game and our pass game and I just think they prepared for who were going to be."
On approach to take from now:
"To not give up, and just come out here and work hard like we have done, and just come out fighting. We can't give up now, there is too much of the season left. We can still come out on top."
Andre Watson
On his game:
"This week in practice we practiced really hard, it's been a challenge coming in as a junior college player and coming in as late as I did, it took a long time for me to get used to the system."
On if there was a different approach in second half:
"Not really. We had a good game plan in already, we got started believing in ourselves and playing really hard. You can't wait till the second half to try to play harder."
On mood in locker room and what to do from now:
"I mean the mood was pretty good. The defense, we know what we have to do to be a better team. We just have to come out here and work hard tomorrow, run our sprints and practice hard, and fix the stuff we messed up today."
Austin Davis
On scrambling:
"Yep. I was just trying to make something happen. They had a good defense, played hard. We will just have to take a look at it and try to get better."
On what to take from loss personally:
"I don't know why but I'm going through this for a reason, this adversity. We are going to find out what we are made of. I'm a big time believer in everything happens for a reason. That's winning or losing, that's part of it. I just want to thank God that He gives us the ability to go play. Because after all, it's not about wins and losses, it's about going out there and playing the game we love to play. That doesn't mean it doesn't hurt when you lose, it hurts just as bad. But we know this happened for a reason and we are going to get better."
On if he felt offense got close to a rhythm:
"It seems like we were threatening going down the thirty, forty, into the red zone at times, we just didn't make the plays towards the end of the game that we needed to. But credit them, they did a good job. There's no doubt the guys played hard though. Every guy on this field wanted to win, we just have to keep doing that, and like I said, good things are going to happen."
On the game not being his best statistical game:
"They did a good job, but a lot of the time when we get down, I'm not worried about stats, I'm trying to win a game, so we just have to make things happen, and sometimes you have to throw it there, and when it's not there you have to try to throw it away. It's all about trying to win a football game. Statistically, it might not have been a very good game. Evaluating my own self, I don't think I played very well. I have to play better. If this offense is going to run I have to play better. I thought the defense played really well, they had a really good offense with 24 points tonight. We just never could get going. I'll take that one, we'll be fine."
