Shaunfield Named C-USA Special Teams Player of the Week

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss sophomore place kicker Parker Shaunfield earned Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week Monday in a vote on by a panel of the league’s media.

Shaunfield led the Golden Eagles with 14 points in the 44-35 win at Kentucky by hitting five extra points while also converting all three field goal opportunities. The Aledo, Texas native hit field goals of 25, 31 and 49 yards, with the 49-yarder being a career best. It was the longest made field goal for the Golden Eagles since Corey Acosta belted a 52-yarder against Rice (9/27/14).

Shaunfield is the first Southern Miss special team weekly winner since Jalen Richard captured the honor on Oct. 26, 2015, following the Charlotte contest. This is the first league weekly award for Shaunfield.

WKU junior QB Mike White earned Offensive Player of the Week, while the Defensive Player of the Week honor went to Louisiana Tech senior S Xavier Woods.The Golden Eagles return to action this Saturday when they entertain Savannah State at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at M.M. Roberts Stadium. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
