HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss Department of Athletics announced Wednesday that they have signed a three-year agreement with Eagle Broadcasting, LLC, to showcase the school’s women’s athletic programs on their station, TheScore1400 (WFOR-AM).

The new home for Golden Eagle women’s athletics is jointly owned by Jill Hebert Pol and Tim Lee, which also own local station, NewsRadio 98.1 (WXMI-FM).

“We are very excited about this partnership that will increase the radio coverage of Southern Miss Athletics,” said Brent Jones, Senior Associate Director of Athletics for External Affairs. “This unique partnership features dedicated radio programming highlighting and promoting all of our women’s sports, which will allow our fans more ways than ever to stay engaged with our sport teams.“

The deal includes all women’s basketball regular season and postseason games, which started at the beginning of the 2016-17 campaign. Almost the entire women’s softball season will also be broadcast, with the exception of some early season conflicts with women’s basketball, and also includes an hour-long softball coach’s show during the spring season.

"We are excited to be teaming up with Southern Miss,” said Hebert Pol. “As the only majority female owned broadcast group in the Pine Belt, this partnership with women's athletics made perfect sense for our company."

“As a Southern Miss Alumni with a degree in Broadcast Journalism, I vowed to do more to support Southern Miss and its athletic teams with all the broadcast properties our company owns,” said Lee. “This partnership with women's athletics should greatly benefit Southern Miss and will give The Score 1400AM WFOR instant credibility."

In addition, TheScore1400 will broadcast a Fall Game of the Week, which will feature either a Golden Eagle women’s soccer or volleyball match. In addition, TheScore1400 also will produce and air an hour-long fall coach’s show that will include interviews with coaches and players from the respective fall sports.

“I'm so excited for our fans,” said Southern Miss softball coach Wendy Hogue. “The partnership with Eagle Broadcasting will allow them to be a part of the action, no matter where we're playing. I grew up listening to Golden Eagle sports on the radio. What a great feeling to know that some little girl, somewhere, will now have the opportunity to listen to Southern Miss softball live on the air. This is just another bit of excitement surrounding the 2017 season!”

The first softball broadcast takes place today when the Golden Eagles take on Ball State at 12:30 p.m., from Lafayette, La. The Lady Eagle basketball team returns to action Saturday afternoon against UTEP, in a 4 p.m., contest from Reed Green Coliseum and can also be heard on 1400 The Score.
