Trent Johnson talks about commitment

Over the past three years Southern Miss has torn down fences and made major head-way into the City of Memphis when it comes to football recruiting. The effort continues to pay off as Southern Miss gained a commitment from Christian Brothers (Memphis, Tenn.) MLB Trent Johnson.
"I committed to Southern Miss last night," Johnson said in an interview with BigGoldNation.com.

Southern Miss made a major impression on Johnson early in the process and tight-ends coach Barney Farrar simply recruited the talented run stopper harder than anyone else.
"I liked the facilities and the coaches," Johnson said. "Coach Farrar and I have become really close."
In addition to Southern Miss, Arkansas State, Memphis and Ole Miss were actively recruiting Johnson.
"Southern Miss was just more interactive with the recruiting process than the other schools."
This past spring CBHS place-kicker Corey Acosta signed with Southern Miss. Did that have any influence on Johnson's decision?
"He always talked really good about them," Johnson said. "But, that didn't really influence my decision. Southern Miss is the best fit for me."
Johnson attended a Junior Day event at Southern Miss in the spring, but has not camped on campus this summer.
"My parents and I will be going back down real soon," he said.
Johnson is an excellent student and is on pace to meet all NCAA freshman eligibility requirements.
