Eagles announce basketball signee

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss men's basketball head coach Doc Sadler announced the signing of Dallas Anglin (Montclair, N.J.) for the 2014-15 school year, Tuesday afternoon.

Anglin, a 6-2 guard, just finished his sophomore season at the College of Southern Idaho, where he played for current Southern Miss assistant Jeremy Cox. Anglin helped the Golden Eagles to a 27-5 record and a berth in the Region 18 Championship Game. Last year, Anglin started 30 of 32 games, scoring 13.4 points while averaging 3.9 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.1 steals. His performance earned his Second Team All-Region 18.

"Dallas is a versatile player that can play all three guard positions," said Sadler. "He comes from one of the premier junior college programs in the country. He helped his team to a conference championship. One of the main things I look at in recruiting is that players come from a winning program, where they expect to win championships, and he certainly has done that."

Anglin, a two-star prospect by ESPN.com, played his high school ball at Seton Hall Prep, where he led the Pirates to back-to-back Essex County titles. As a senior, he averaged 19 points in leading SHP to the county and New Jersey State title. That year, he was named the Essex County Player of the Year and Second Team All-State by the Star-Ledger. As a junior, he averaged 17.2 points. He began high school as a freshman earning Rookie of the Year honors after scoring 15 points per game en route to the Hudson County Championship.

"I'm really excited about being a Golden Eagle," said Anglin. "I'm excited to be playing for Coach Sadler and the new staff. It is a great environment with great people and I can't wait to come down there and win a lot of games next year."
