HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss football coach Larry Fedora announced Thursday night at a gathering of Golden Eagle supporters that rising senior running back Damion Fletcher has been reinstated to the squad.
Fletcher, who is the school's all-time leading rusher with 4,287 yards, garnered a suspension during the spring after an off-the-field incident.
"I am very happy to have been reinstated to the football team," Fletcher said. "The incident that happened during the spring was out of character for me and for that I apologize to all the Southern Miss family and fans. I am glad that this is behind me and am looking forward to help our team compete for a Conference USA championship during my senior year as well as trying to complete my degree."
Fedora made the announcement at the Southern Miss Central Mississippi Alumni Chapter's 26th annual Jackson All-Star Party at the Mississippi Trademart.
