Marion talks Southern Miss commitment
Southern Miss makes it a two-for-two with the commitment of Ridgeland (MS) High sleeper defensive back Xavier Marion. Marion becomes the second defender to commit to Southern Miss in as many days when he pledged his services to the Golden Eagles on Sunday evening.
"I committed to Southern Miss," Marion told BigGoldNation.com in a phone interview earlier this evening.

Marion helped Ridgeland to a 9-4 record this past season and is expected to help them make an even deeper push toward a State Championship in 2013.
Southern Miss got on Marion early and stayed with him over the past few months.
"They offered right after my spring game," he said.
Southern Miss recruiting coordinator Steve Buckley serves as Marion's recruiting coach and the two have built a solid relationship during the process.
"We talk all the time," he said of Buckley. "I call him and he calls me, he's come to my practices and stopped by the school....
"We have a good relationship," he continued.
In addition to Southern Miss, Marion had been heavily recruited by Mississippi, Miss State, ULL, Northwestern State and several others. Alcorn St. and Jackson State have extended offers to the talented defender.
When he began looking at the different schools and what they had to offer there were a few things about Southern Miss that really stood out.
"They're close to home," he said of Southern Miss. "My parents are a big part of my life and I want them to be able to come to all my games."
Academics are also a priority for Marion who plans to major in Sports Medicine.
"They have a good academic program," he continued.
Marion also felt like he really connected with not only Steve Buckley, but also the rest o the Southern Miss coaching staff.
