Recruit Reaction: Records Fall

Records fell on Saturday Night as Southern Miss rolled up 702 yards of total offense and a number of Golden Eagle etched their names in the record books.

Southern Miss had more than 100 recruits at the game and the team put on a show for them and the crowd with a thrilling 44-28 win over the Rice Owls.

Here's what a few select prospects had to say about the game and their experience on campus.

"My thoughts on the game was they had a little slow start but they started to get the flow after the 1st quarter," he said. "I was very impressed with the special teams they were the spark of the game to get them started! And it was a great experience the intensity level stayed high!"

"I liked what I saw," Mathis said. "When the team made mistakes they kept playing and I love how their defensive line got after it. But, most of all I like how Coach Hopson holds his players accountable for their mistakes."

"I liked the way Southern Miss played," he continued. "You can compare them to my high school as far players and coaches most definitely coaches because my coaches always hold us accountable for what we do on and off the field."

"It was a really great atmosphere," Morton said. "I hadn't been to a game since 2011 and it had the same type vibe."

The fans were into it, and both sides of the ball were performing really well," he continued. "Obviously Nick Mullens had a phenomenal game throwing the ball all over the field. I'm super excited to see the places this program is going!"

"Great game!," Terry said. "The offense put up some big numbers. It's great to see the offense doing good because I'm going to be making plays in that same offense next year. It's very exciting!"

"I loved the game, really liked how the team played together. I love everything about their campus really look like somewhere you could focus," he said.

"There was a great atmosphere on campus," Tyler said. "I would love to come to more games in the future. While talking with coach Hopson I was very impressed with his hospitality before the game."

"As a tight end, I enjoyed watching the different ways their offense used tights end," he continued. Overall it is an awesome school with great facilities to be part of...."
