The road to three-peating the Sun Belt conference championship started off great for Southern Miss, as the Golden Eagles advanced to the next round of the tournament after beating Texas State 9-1.

Southern Miss got on the board early thanks to a sac-fly from Carson Paetow that brought home Jake Cook for the first run of the day. Joey Urban followed up Paetow with an RBI single that brought home Nick Monistere. Southern Miss continued to add on the runs in the second inning as Drey Barrett came home to score through a fielder's choice.

The scoring resumed for the Golden Eagles in the fourth as Jake Cook added on two more with a two-run shot that gave Southern Miss a 5-0 lead. Ozzie Pratt followed up in the fifth with two more runs of his own thanks to an RBI single that brought home Tucker Stockman and Drey Barrett to give Southern Miss a 7-0 lead.

Texas State were able to get their first and only run of the day with a RBI single of their own in the top half of the six, but Southern Miss wasted no time to respond as Ozzie Pratt knocked in a RBI single of his own that brought home Ben Higdon to keep the Golden Eagles ahead 8-1.

JB Middleton’s day wrapped up in the top half of the 7th as his final statline was 7.0 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 HP, and 10 strikeouts. Kros Silvey replaced him on the mound to finish out the game. Matthew Russo put on the finishing touches of Wednesday’s game with a sac-fly that brought home Seth Smith, for the ninth and final run of the game.

Southern Miss has now won their 16th straight game, which is now the longest streak in the program's history. The Golden Eagles now move to 42-13, and will take on Old Dominion in the next round on Thursday.
