Standberry talks Southern Miss Jr Day

Carver (Montgomery, Ala.) High produces as much talent as any program in the South on a regular basis and this year is no exception. Over the weekend five prospects from Carver attended the Southern Miss Junior Day event. Star receiver Charles Standberry talks about the visit and his first impression of Head Coach Todd Monken.
"I really had a good time," he said of the visit. "I finally had a chance to meet all the coaches face to face."

Stanberry a 6-foot-3, 205-pound pass catcher has a unique combination of size and speed that would fit perfectly into Monken's offense at Southern Miss.
Among the highlights of his visit was the one-on-on time he spend with the first year Southern Miss head coach.
"Coach Monken was telling me a little about himself and all the levels that he's coached football," he said. "I really like that because he's a coach that get you ready for 'the league' and get me to the next level."
Monken spent four years as an assistant coach in the NFL, coaching both wide receivers and quarterbacks for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
He also had the opportunity to spend time with his recruiter Southern Miss inside receivers coach John Wozniak.
"I really like Coach Woz," he said. "He showed me and my team mates a good time.
"I feel like we're building a strong player-coach relationship," he continued.
Standberry was also impressed with the facilities at Southern Miss.
"I like the facilities, they are nice," he said. "I really like the stadium and how close the stands are to the field."
He also took time to soak in some of the history of success that the Southern Miss program has historically enjoyed and came away with this lasting impression.
"I think Southern Miss is a special place to play football," he said finishing the interview.
Southern Miss was the first program to offer the talented pass catcher, but they won't be the last recently he has been hearing from UCLA and Mississippi.
